Two individual fates move in opposite directions. Olga, a nurse from the Ukraine, abandons her family to look for a better life in the West and ends up working as a cleaning woman in a geriatric ward in Austria. Paul, an unemployed security guard from Vienna, is looking a reason to get up in the mornings and heads East with his stepfather, ending up in the Ukraine. Two young people on the move, eager to start a new life, confronted with a rough reality. Two stories about the pursuit of happiness and material advantages, about the darker sides of sexuality and death, and about the difficulties of cleaning the teeth of a stuffed fox...
Ulrich Seidl, è nato nel 1952 e vive a Vienna in Austria. È il regista di numerosi documentari, premiati in molti festival, come Jesus, du weißt, Models e Tierische Liebe. Il suo metodo di lavoro, raggiungendo la più grande autenticità possibile e mostrando le persone nei loro momenti solitari e personali, ha provocato intensi dibattiti. Il suo primo lungometraggio narrativo, Hundstage, ha vinto il Premio Speciale della giuria al Festival di Venezia 2001. Import Export è il primo film che Seidl ha anche prodotto.
Ulrich Seidl, born 1952, lives in Vienna, Austria. He is the director of numerous award-winning documentaries such as Jesus, du weißt, Models and Tierische Liebe . His work methods, achieving the greatest possible authenticity and showing people in the most solitary and personal moments, has aroused intense debate. His first fiction feature, Hundstage, won the Grand Jury Special Prize at the 2001 Venice Film Festival. Import Export is the first film that Seidl has also produced.
