Memorabile documento sullo smantellamento del muro che riflette emozionalmente sul mutamento storico attraverso la lente del landscape, urbanistica, architettura lungo "la linea della morte". Un requiem per un paese al quale il cineasta e pittore Jürgen Böttcher era stato legato per 40 anni da uno stretto rapporto di amore e odio. Vediamo il Muro fotografato da turisti giapponesi, smembrato pezzo dopo pezzo da bambini di origine turca che ne staccano i frammenti per venderli. La mostruosa opera di costruzione al centro di Berlino – per più di 25 anni simbolo della guerra fredda – diventa attraverso lo stratagemma del regista schermo stesso della sua propria storia.
Memorable document about the wall dismantling which emotionally reflect the historical changing through the lens of the landscape, the urbanistic and architectonic trasformation along the "wall death line". A requiem for a country whose director and painter Jürgen Böttcher had been tied for fourty years in a hate/love relationship. We can see the wall bombed by pictures by japanese tourists and dismanteld by the hammers of young turkish who sell the stones like the sales of history. The monstruous construction at the center of Berlin - representing the cold war for more the 25 years - become the same screen of its own history through a narrative strategy inside the film.
Jürgen Böttcher, classe 1931, dopo essersi diplomato all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Dresda, aveva iniziato la sua attività di pittore, cui si sarebbe aggiunta negli anni ’60, quella di regista. Nel 1961 entra come regista al dipartimento documentari della DEFA, (gli studi cinematografici dell'ex Germania est) dove rimarrà fino al 1990. Poco dopo aver girato il suo documentario sul Muro, annuncia di volersi ritirare dal cinema per dedicarsi alla pittura. Tornerà a dirigere, nel 1999, un video che riprende il lavoro di alcuni artisti durante una mostra.
Born in 1931, Jürgen Böttcher, classe 1931studies at the Fine Arts Academy of Dresda as painter. In the sixties he starts to work as director, entering DEFA in '61 as documentarist and working there untill the '90.His documentariy "Die Mauer" Is even his cinematographic testament. He then stops directing and come back to painting to arrive to 1999 where he directs a very last film about some german painters duirng their exhibition
