 Tobaron Waxman, USA, 2001, 18', Dv Due ragazzi ne assaltano un altro nella scala di un edificio. Otto minuti dopo, una voce-off dice “cut” e dietro la telecamera parte l’istruzione “Aftercare” (mantenimento psicoemozionale successivo alle scene Bdsm). I due FTM iniziano immediatamente ad abbraciare, baciare ed accarezzare il soggetto che appena prima era la vittima. Su invito del regista, il gruppo rientra immeditamente nella scena, come se il momento di tenerezza non ci fosse mai stato. L’inclusione dell’”Aftercare” tocca l’ultimo tabù che mai fuorisce da un porno: l'empatia e l'intimità. Lo spettatore è invitato a ridiscutere i ruoli e le identità di genere dei partecipanti tra violenza e consenso. Two guys jump another guy in the stairwell and sexually assault him. 8 mins later, a voice off camera calls "cut". A voice behind the camera instructs: "Aftercare" (physical and psycho-emotional maintenance post BDSM scene). The two FTMs instantly begin to embrace, kiss and caress the one who was earlier their victim. On cue from the director, they instantly get back into the assault as though there had never been an interruption, or any of the tenderness of the earlier scene. Inclusion of the aftercare confronts the last taboo, rarely addressed in sexually explicit video: empathy and intimacy. The viewer is positioned to question their role in violence and consent and their part in determining the gender identity of the players. Il lavoro di Waxman contestualizza genere, l'incarnazione e l’esperienza fisica del tempo come sistemi di inscrizione. Il suo lavoro include elementi dell’esperienza della Diaspora nonché testi, musiche e filosofie tradizionali ebraiche così come la politica e il desiderio. La sua attività è articolata attraverso vari media: fotografia, video, voce, ingegneria dei tessuti, internet, biofeedback processing, performance e interventi sociali. Tobaron Waxman, is an interdisciplinary time-based artist, specializing in performance and digital media. He completed an MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where he also taught. Tobaron Waxman's work contextualizes gender, embodiment, and the physical experience of time as systems of inscription. His work includes elements of Diaspora experience and traditional Jewish texts, music, and philosophy, as well as politics and desire. His live art practice is articulated through various media: photography, video, voice, tissue engineering, internet, biofeedback processing, performance, social interventions.
