Dopo un incidente in macchina Alex non ricorda più nulla. Nel tentativo di guarirlo dalla sua amnesia, il nonno Bai Dan arriva in Germania e organizza per lui un viaggio spirituale nel suo passato, nel paese da cui proviene. Mentre viaggiano nel tempo e nello spazio e attraversano mezza Europa, giocano a backgammon, il più semplice e allo stesso tempo il più complesso di tutti i giochi. Questo gioco conduce Alex a prendere coscienza di chi sia e che il backgammon gioca un ruolo chiave nella sua storia. Il destino sono i dadi che ha in mano e la vita è un gioco in bilico tra il caso e l'abilità. This is the story of a Bulgarian boy who grows up to be a German man. After a car accident Alex can't remember even what his name is. In an attempt to cure him from amnesia, his grandfather Bai Dan comes to Germany and organizes a spiritual journey for his grandson back into his past, to the country where he came from. While travelling across time and space and crossing half of Europe, they play backgammon, the simplest, and yet the most complex of all games. This game leads Alex to a realization of who he is, and that backgammon is a key to his story. Destiny is the dice we hold in our own hands and life is a game somewhere between chance and skill. Stefan Komandarev, nato nel 1966, non intendeva diventare un filmmaker. I suoi primi studi sono stati in medicina e per quattro anni è stato psichiatra in una clinica per bambini. Successivamente ha studiato film alla New Bulgarian University di Sofia. Il suo primo lungometraggio, Dogs' Home (2000), ha vinto il premio per il miglior debutto al Varna Golden Rose Film Festival. Nel 2002 il documentario Bread over the Fence ha vinto il Grand Prix al Festival di Lipsia. Alphabet of Hope (2003) ha vinto il più importante premio bulgaro per i documentari, il Golden Rython. Stefan Komandarev, born in 1966, didn't intend to become a filmmaker. His first education was in Medicine and for four years he worked as a psychiatrist in a children's clinic. Then he studied film at the New Bulgarian University in Sofia. His feature debut Dogs' Home (2000) grabbed the debut award of the Varna Golden Rose film festival. In 2002 the documentary Bread over the Fence earned the Grand Prix at Leipzig Festival.
