Delle persone spazzano e rastrellano foglie in un parco come se non avessero mai fatto altro nella vita. La ciclicità della musica enfatizza i movimenti ripetitivi della sguadra di pulizia. La polvere e i graffi sulla pellicola bianco e nero aggiungono qualcosa all'atmosfera delle immagini. Sembra un vecchio film di un paese dell'Est. Pian piano la videocamera rivela l'ambiente attorno ai personaggi, e vengono inquadrate delle statue. La reazione non può essere che di sorpresa: la differenza di scala tra le statue e gli uomini e' immensa. Quando le statue vengono inquadrate in tutta la loro grandezza le persone sembrano formiche. La dimensione delle statue è tale che produce un effetto ironico. Girato presso la collina Mamaev in Volgograd, Russia.

People sweep and rake leaves in a park as if they have never done anything else. The cyclical music emphasises the repetitive movements of the cleaning crew. The dust particles and scratches on the black-and-white footage add to the atmosphere. It seems as if we're watching an archive film from the Eastern Bloc. As the camera gradually reveals more of the surroundings, statues appear in the frame. We are caught off guard by a feeling of amazement: the difference in scale between man and statue is immerse. By the time we see the statues in their entirety, the people the size of ants. The triumphant posture of the statues is so unseemly that it has an ironic effect. Steffen Ramlow, nato a Berlino nel 1974. Dopo alcune esperienze come fotografo e light designer per molti gruppi teatrali, nel 1998 ha studiato comunicazione visiva alla Universität der Künste (UDK) di Berlino, e nel 2000 prosegue gli studi in media sperimentali alla Universität der Künste . Nello stesso anno fonda la galleria d'arte LICHTSCHLIFF – bilder & töne – berlin. Si laurea in cinema sperimentale alla UDK di Berlino nel 2004. È filmmaker, video artista e fotografo freelance.

Steffen Ramlow, born in Berlin in 1974. After several experiences as photographer and light designer for various theaters and off-theater groups, in 1998 studied visual communications at the Universität der Künste (UDK), Berlin, and then in 2000 he took up experimental media at the Universität der Künste. In the same year he founded the gallery and art space LICHTSCHLIFF – bilder & töne – berlin. He graduated in experimental film and media at the UDK Berlin in 2004. He works as a filmmaker, video artist and freelance photographer.
