Young Ah Peng leaves her provincial town and goes to Kuala Lumpur to work in her aunt’s small bistro. She is welcomed as a daughter and begins an affectionate friendship with her cousin Mei, for whom she becomes a sort of older sister. One summer evening, as she is going to telephone her mother and her boyfriend, Ah Peng meets John, who starts following her everywhere to convince her to take up with him. Stubborn and tireless, John wears down Ah Peng’s resistance and soon they begin a serious relationship. But when John disappears after confessing to having contacts in a prostitution ring, Ah Peng is forced to go to great lengths to get her lover to return.

Tan Chui Mui, recently received the Tiger Award from the 36th International Film Festival Rotterdam with her debut feature film, Love Conquers All. The film had previously picked up New Currents Awards and Fipresci Award at the 11th Pusan International Film Festival. She had been actively involved in the Malaysia independent film scene, working as producer, editor, script writer and occasionally actress. In 2004, she set up Da Huang Pictures with Amir Muhammad and James Lee.
She was born 1978 in Malaysia, in a small fishing village called Sungai Ular.
