Un veicolo corazzato, una nuvola di polvere, una donna sanguinante, un megafono, un’ambulanza, una donna con due bambini, un’altra ambulanza, una ragazza che piange, un uomo con i capelli bianchi, una folata di vento, un reporter, un veicolo corazzato, un dettaglio di un’immagine più grande.
“L’ultimo video di Avi Mograbi, “Detail”, è stato girato nella Azmout Junction ad est di Nablus. Otto brevi e dolorosi minuti riassumono la situazione inconcepibile e disumana che scaturisce dall’occupazione. Sembra che l’incidente abbia scelto Mograbi più di quanto Mograbi abbia scelto l’incidente.”
An armoured vehicle, a cloud of dust, a bleeding woman, a megaphone, an ambulance, a woman with two children, another ambulance, a weeping girl, a man with white hair, a gust of wind, a reporter, an armoured vehicle, a detail of a bigger picture. "Avi Mograbi’s latest video “Detail,” was filmed at Azmout Junction east of Nablus. Eight short painful minutes epitomize the inconceivable, inhuman situation the occupation has brought about. It appears as if the incident chose Mograbi more than he chose it."
Detail è proprio un dettaglio. È un dettaglio del mio film Avenge but one of my two eyes, ma soprattutto è un dettaglio della realtà che viviamo in Israele e nei territori occupati. Eppure è un dettaglio oscuro, almeno per noi israeliani. Se volessimo vederlo potremmo, ma noi preferiamo non esporci agli infiniti dettagli che rendono insopportabile la vita ai palestinesi. Ci raccontiamo molte storie su come sia la realtà, ma la verità è che abbiamo perso l’abilità di vedere quello che ci riguarda.

"Detail" is indeed a detail. It is a detail of my feature film “Avenge but one of my two eyes”, but more importantly, it is a detail of the reality that we live in in Israel and the Occupied Territories. Yet, this detail is an obscure one, at least for us Israelis, not that we could not see it if we wished, we prefer not to expose ourselves to those endless details that make the lives of 3.5 millions Palestinians unbearable. We tell ourselves many stories as to what reality is like, but the truth is that we lost the ability to look at our own doings. (Avi Mograbi)
