Niko, ormai cinquantenne, è disoccupato e vive con i soldi che gli manda suo figlio Mikel dall’Italia, dove è scappato via mare. Non lo sente da tempo, non ha sue notizie, un suo amico appena tornato dall’Italia, non è riuscito ad incontrarlo: forse si nasconde. Perché? Tuttavia ha mandato una lettera che può chiarire ogni cosa. Ma non appena l’ha tra le mani, un’improvvisa folata di vento gliela strappa via.
The story is about Niko, 50 years old, a poor man who lives off his son Mikel. Mikel escaped to Italy and lives there. Niko has not heard from his son for a long time, he hasn’t got any news about him. A friend just returned from Italy couldn’t manage to meet him, he might be hiding. But why? Nevertheless Mike has sent him a letter that could clarify the situation, but it gets blown away by a gust of wind before Niko can read it.
Edmond Budina fa l'assemblatore di turbine idrauliche in una fabbrica di Bassano del Grappa. Lasciò Tirana insieme alla famiglia nel '91: sua suocera, di nazionalità italiana, venne rimpatriata insieme ad altri connazionali. "A Ciampino ci accolse il ministro Boniver, quindi fummo ricevuti dal presidente Cossiga al Quirinale: due settimane in albergo e poi... arrangiatevi". Attore e regista di teatro, vicedirettore dell'Accademia d'arte drammatica di Tirana, attivo nel movimento di opposizione al regime comunista e punto di riferimento per molti studenti, si è ispirato a queste vicende per scrivere un film, Lettere al vento.
Edmond Budina works in a hydraulic turbine assembly plant in Bassano del Grappa. He left Tirana with his family in ’91: his mother in law, who had Italian nationality, was repatriated with other compatriots. “ Minister Boniver welcomed us in Ciampino, afterwards we were received by the President Cossiga at the Qurinale: two weeks in a hotel, and after that we were on our own”. Bodina is an actor and stage director, he served as deputy director of the Academy of Dramatic Art in Tirana, he was part of the movement against the communist regime, and is considered a point of reference for many students. He got inspired by his own experiences to write this film.
