BARATINADOS DOIS
TRIBUTE TO ROGERIO SGANZERLA
Not only because of the audience participation to the first part of the
retrospective on Rogerio Sganzerla, screened at Tekfestival’s last
edition, but also because of the urgency we feel to finish a journey started
one year ago, we decided to show four more films by the
Brazilian director during this edition of the Festival. This retrospective
will therefore add up to an important part of the total “corpus”
of Rogerio’s cinema.
We feel a strong commitment towards this director, who
is scarcely appreciated in Brazil and almost unknown in Europe, and we
are determined to spread his works in Italy. We were very pleased that,
after the initial effort by the Torino Filmfestival and our following
work during the last two years, his films are being requested by and screened
during several international festivals,
Next March, the FIFF Fribourg International Film Festival will pay its tribute to Helena Ignez with a retrospective called “La Femme du Bandit”, which will screen 20 films by Sganzerla and Helena Ignez.
The films proposed during this edition of Tekfestival will trace and complete
the path we started. Nem Tudo è Verdade, a contamination
between documentary and fiction, and Tudo è Brasil will
complete the trilogy started last year with O Signo do Caos.
The Brazilian Director dedicated this trilogy to Orson Welles,
revealing the bad Brazilian experience of one of the mythical figures
of our time while he shot It’s All True, surrounded by one of the
greatest rhythms of the world, the Samba, and describing the daily life
of the Blacks, the outskirts of Rio, the Jangadeiros of Fortaleze, accomplishing
what Bressane describes as “A jewel forged with love and genius.”
On the other hand, we will propose Sem Essa, Aranha, where Jorge
Loredo plays the role of Aranha, the last capitalist of the country who
reflects on Brazil. Sem Essa, Aranha gives us a thorough look of the tropical
side of Sganzerla, which testifies, after Copacabana mon Amour
and A Miss e o Dinosauro, the production of the Independent Production
Company Bel Air founded by Sganzerla and Bressane at the beginning of
the ‘70s. Our journey ends with O Abismu, which shows how
Brazil is an ancient country with two constant characteristics: the volcanic
nature of our Atlantic coast and the written and oral communication identity
between East and West. Taking into consideration the present, O Abismu
shows that vulgarity is a political issue. A vulgar man is an absolutely
normal man. Concerning the sound of the future, the film evokes Jimi
Hendrix and brings into contact the new man, a man with a playful
attitude, with nature, returning to his own mind.
In this brief introduction we would like to thank for their
precious collaboration Helena Ignez, Djin Sganzerla, Andrè Bonfim
(Difusao de film Cinemateca Brasileira), Mercurio Producoes, Marina Mottin,
Fribourg International Filmfestival, Torino Filmfestival and Roberto Turigliatto.
