PHAG OFF
Independent cinema beyond the borders of sexuality.

Once again the relationship between independent culture and queer imagery defines the operative margin of this section. New balancing passages have been created at the and of the post-modern era to understand how the gay, lesbian and transsexual experience is acquiring an historical dimension to support the birth of new political geographies of the body and sociologies of the emotion. Borderline and zone of linguistic and visual experimentation, Phag Off aims at creating an independent space trying to escape the faith of the complex production and distribution of G.L.B.T cinema. This is why the research focuses on a cinema that is inconvenient but highly imaginative, independent but shining, violent but affectionate, cold but erogenous, that proposes issues but deals with them, intimate but pornographic, capable of tearing apart the glossy mainstream gay production and infecting the screen with libertarian issues related to the return of the body and its individualisation/growth/liberation as a radical way to transform what already exists. Phag Off loves a cinema of danger that performs excitement and fear through and beyond any ideological tie and deprives itself of its mechanisms of power. In a forbidden reality, in the immorality of the act, in the joy of the crisis, in the red zone of the collective orgasm, lights are turned off, doubts are raised, the truth crumbles and you can only come out a “diverse person”. As an eye lubricant for a mental Fist Fucking, this year Phag Off will mainly focus on independent American cinema, with a section on Argentina and one on France. It will focus on two different issues and will host a number of events that will intertwine, enhance and enrich the screenings.

BEARS AND LEATHERS ON FILM - UNSAFE: a subsection dedicated to a de-symbolizing representation of the male gender within the homosexual world.
This year it will focus on themes such as gerontophilia, bears life in Rome, skin fetish and its ways of aggregation, politically incorrect male sexual practices with their difficult and different ways of facing the AIDS/HIV issue. We will concentrate on the “coming out” of the serological status, and mainly on “Bare Backing”, that is a way to express a mutual consent (or maybe not) to spread the virus, its representation in society, and the cultural imagery surrounding this issue. Here are some of the films that will narrate such themes: Attraction to Older Men by Clark Nikolai; Citizen Ciccio by Alice Vivono and Alessandro Rustichelli; IML 2003 - Pissies not sissies and Overdue Conversation by Charles Lum - who will be the curator of a panel discussion on these subjects - and the national premiere of The Gift by Lousie Hogart. This section has been created in collaboration with Epicentro Ursino Romano and Leather Club Roma.

MIND THE PHAG: mind the phag, the deviant, the diverse. A dangerous path dedicated to provocation, enthusiasm, excitement, dance, disorder and indiscipline through independent, experimental and icy movies, cumshots right in the face on conformists in an entertaining, loud and irritating orgasm. Get ready to be exhilarated by by themes such as male prostitution in Argentina, the crisis of being in a relationship, homophobic violence within families, plushies fetish, lesbian independent pornography, videoclips, body morphing, graphic deign, software open source to experimental videos on body representation. Interpreters of these themes are Ronde de nuit by Edgardo Cozarinski (national premiere), A Tale of Two Plushies by Amanda Laws, Open by Teale Failla, Flave e Le scieurs, Jouir malgré tout, opus 2 by Laurence Chanfro/Queer Factory, Spiritual Healing by 47th floor in collaboration with Zu and Okapi, Flxer Intro by Flyer communication.
