LANDSCAPES
This year again we entrust the section Panorama/Landscapes
with the role of putting in scene the best of the latest national and international
production. A long journey which will let us move and explore many and sometimes
unheard-of places: settings of fierce conflicts or rooms for a keen critic
to the society, poetic glances to realities difficult to be understood or
some steps along uneven lands. Pathways moving in geographic places far
each other and throughout different themes, yet sharing the effort of giving
through the cinema new possibilities of reading the world around us and
cinema itself. During this fourth section we come back to some theme dear
to our history, but with new instruments.
Many titles about to the Middle Est as the restrospective
dedicated to the Egyptian director Yousry Nasrallah (with,
among the others, the visionary La
Porte du Soleil) and the works dedicated to the Israelian Palestinian
conflicts. This year we have tried to privilege some aspects usually less
spoken of: as an example, through the
Channels of rage, by Anat Halachmi, we will follow the interweaving
betweeen music -in particular the emergent hip-hop- and the war.
Then we come back to Latin America, with the intense Relatos
desde el Encierro by Guadalupe Miranda. A
scupulous sight into the women jail of Jalisco (Mexico). On Argentina during
the seventhies focuses Los
Perros - made by the young director Adrian Jaime -
rich of inventory images and forgotten histories documentary. The occupation
again this year. We cannot avoid to pay homage to maybe the most harsh work
controversy of the latest years, that is Melfi, giving room to Appunti
per un film sulla lotta di Melfi by Stefano Consiglio.
At the same time, in this edition we venture in new fields; we will explore
the history and the nowadays reality of European East, with a rich section
of documentaries made by emerging Poland authors and with
Children
of the Decree by Florin Lepan who ventures into the demographic
policy at the time of Ceaucescu. We will move towards the section Independent
Day, which shows the manifold ways through which the American independent
art director “new school” looks at its country and shows it.
This year the usual attention paid to the identity of gender takes on an
eccentric and radical look with a succeeding of desecrating production by
lesbian authress. To continue, we could not miss a trip through the productions
which have faced the war in Iraq, of which they reveal some aspectc unpleasant
to the media. The Middle East we put on scene is not merely that of the
oil war, it is also a country full with hardened art directors, with all
kind of jobs around making cinema, with the persistance in imaging and involving
the audience: these are the images we have chosen to open the festival,
thanks to Trial.
To conclude, the section Panorami will trodd several thematic
paths, most of which are made thanks to the collaboration and partecipation
of many people. About all of them you can find echoes in the following pages.
Thanks to every one .....
